Riccardo Benassi

"The interest of the Italian artist Riccardo Benassi lies in the interaction between sound and objects.
The objects, taken from daily life, acquire an identity of their own through sound. The work of Riccardo Benassi often gets him to establish interactive performances with the audience. In this way, the interactive operation is based on a collective conditioning. The persons, the objects, the artist himself, result to be the protagonists of one and the same action, collectively searching for an alternative mode of conceptualising their mutual relations.
When the objects themselves become protagonists, they are manipulated and forced to retell their own identity through the execution of a normal gesture.
This is, for instance, the case in the concert for ventilators: these normal household appliances are invited by the artist to play a keyboard, and to transform the noise they make into a simple but important musical note."
